Miami-Dade voters are being asked — for the third time in eight years — to voluntarily tax themselves to help pay public school teachers and keep cops in schools.
Because apparently Tallahassee still hasn’t figured out how to adequately fund either one.
The Secure Our Future referendum will be on the Nov. 3 ballot, asking voters to renew the existing one-mill property tax for another four years, from July 1, 2027, through June 30, 2031. The money would continue going primarily toward supplements for teachers and other instructional personnel, with a smaller portion paying for school safety and security.
